Kyoto. A city wrapped in mystery. Not because I know nothing of it, quite the contrary. I know a lot. I’ve been here twice and both times, overwhelmed. Both trips to Japan had a different focus than documenting the place. Both in the winter, with the sole purpose of tackling the infamous Japow.
But what little I know of Kyoto is not from the lack of exploration. But rather the lack of intent to bring about its best light. When I travel to a new place, I always document to the best of my abilities as a photographer. I take out my best camera and equipment. Research the spot thoroughly for the best angles and lighting, but never at Kyoto. You see I was drawn to this city from two friends I met while traveling in Salerno, Italy. Yuichiro and Eiji. We clicked and now I’ve made Kyoto a frequent destination whenever I can.

I have yet to document Kyoto to the best of my abilities and I have made plans to do so, specifically during its most colorful season, fall and spring. I want to see the cherry blossom in the spring and fall colors in autumn. This photo essay is what little I captured with the phone camera and a cheap point and shoot. Here are some snaps I took from both times I’ve been there.
